Pre – startup Checks

Start with a small load and gradually increase it. This helps the generator adjust to the load and prevents any sudden spikes in power demand. Keep an eye on the generator’s performance as you add more load. If you notice any strange noises or the generator seems to be struggling, reduce the load immediately.
Monitoring the Generator
While the generator is running, you need to keep an eye on it. Check the gauges regularly to make sure the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage are all within the normal range. If any of these values go out of the normal range, it could be a sign of a problem.
Listen for any unusual noises. A knocking sound could indicate a problem with the engine, while a hissing sound might mean there’s a leak. If you notice anything out of the ordinary, shut down the generator immediately and investigate the problem.
Shutting Down the Generator
When you’re done using the generator, it’s important to shut it down properly. First, reduce the load to zero. This means turning off all the electrical devices connected to the generator. Then, let the generator run at a low load for a few minutes to cool down.
After the cool – down period, turn off the main switch on the control panel. This will stop the engine. If it’s a manual start generator, you might need to pull the choke to help it stop.
Maintenance and Safety
Regular maintenance is key to keeping your diesel generator set in good working condition. Change the engine oil and oil filter at the recommended intervals. Replace the air filter when it gets dirty. Check the spark plugs (if applicable) and replace them if they’re worn out.
